Member Guidelines


Creative Body Institute is committed to supporting the work of established and emerging professional artists as well as artistic researchers and practice-based scholars. We look for artists that can benefit from our commitment to daily praxis as a foundation for creating a consistent, cohesive body of work.  We currently accept member applications from artists who were selected for CBI programs through an open call or course application. Member applications are reviewed quarterly by the artist-faculty board.

Benefits of Membership *

  • Receive weekly praxis prompt created by our faculty artists

  • Sign up for 1:1 mentorship with faculty artists

  • Opportunities to participate in curated group shows, gain exhibition experience, and receive commissions for performances and creative work

  • Opportunities to publish in Creative Body Institute limited edition Artist Books

  • Opportunities to propose and/or co-curate exhibitions, lectures, performances, or PRAXIS programming with and for our member artists, faculty, and curatorial team.

  • Images, bio and artist statement on the Creative Body Institute member portal

  • Login to the member’s virtual studio to meet other CBI members and create work together

  • Eligibility to serve on the Board of Trust (meets quarterly)

  • Discounts on fees for online courses, annual programming, and biennial conference.

Requirements of Membership *

  • One year commitment to our community of creative bodies 

  • 30% Commission taken in by Creative Body Institute (25% for Board of Trust and Faculty)

  • 2025 commission revenue will be allocated to the maintenance of the member site, to our campaign for permanence, and to our mutual aid funds, per annual vote of the Board of Trust.

  • Participation in Creative Body Institute campaign for permanence

  • Our members approach our work together with a collective mindset. This means that members PRAXIS together in ways that debunk systems of individualism and competition.

  • Create toward the sustainability of ephemeral arts and embodied knowledges.

  • Create locally and globally with intention and gratitude for the unique timespace relations created between our bodies, our collaborators, and the communities that welcome us.

  • Promote Creative Body Institute when appropriate (network, social media, press, etc.)

  • Share resource with CBI artist members through mutual aid and horizontal structures of support

TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP

 FULL MEMBERSHIP 

  •  $55 membership dues per month ($660 annually)

  • Weekly praxis prompt

  • Flexible 1:1 faculty mentorship

  • Full access to member portal including our archive of creative praxis prompts and exercises

  • Discounted member fees on all programming, courses and CBI conferences or events

  • Member portal login to submit your work to CBI group shows, exhibitions, and publications

  • Priority waitlist placement for full courses and programs

  • Access to virtual studio for co-creating with other members

SLIDING SCALE MEMBERSHIP

  • $30/$20 membership dues per month ($360/$240 annually) 

  • Weekly praxis prompt

  • Four, 30 minute 1:1 faculty mentorship meetings (quarterly or project-specific).

  • Access to member portal including the prior year archive of monthly creative praxis prompts

  • Discounted member fees on all online courses and CBI conferences or events

  • Member portal login to submit your work to CBI group shows, exhibitions, and publications

  • Priority waitlist placement for full courses and programs

  • Access to virtual studio for co-creating with other members

PORTAL MEMBERSHIP

  • $60 membership fee per year

  • 10 images, bio and artist statement on the member website

  • Member portal login to submit your work to CBI group shows, exhibitions, and publications

  • Invitation to CBI conferences, events, and courses *regular fees apply

  • Access to virtual studio for co-creating with other members

SWEAT EQUITY MEMBERSHIP 

  • Sweat Equity duties are defined by the Board of Trust annually depending on programming needs.

  • A FULL membership can be subsidized through our Sweat Equity program. 

  • There are generally TWO sweat equity memberships available annually. For more information about this membership, please contact admin@creativebody.org. 

SPONSORED MEMBERSHIP

  • •During 2025 we can offer two (2) partially sponsored FULL memberships of $600

  • Selected members will not pay member fees beyond the $60 portal membership fee for up to two years.

  • Selected members can transfer their sponsorship to another member artist through mutual aid if their financial situation changes.

  • To request sponsorship, fill out the membership application and check the bos for “Sponsored Membership”
