SLOW Ecologies is a two-week artist residency that occurs on Turtle Time

co-curated by Environmental Artist Sarah Cameron Sunde and Durational Performance Artist Raegan Truax.

The residency takes place on the fertile slopes of an ancient and extinct volcano in the heart of the Galápagos Archipelago, South America. A place where time seems to stand still, the Galápagos Islands–named for their giant tortoises–are a UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of the last natural paradise places on Earth.

SLOW Ecologies is a unique residency for artists who want to balance your daily creative practice with the opportunity to also explore some of the most diverse and rarest plants and animals in the world. We look for artists working across all mediums who want to collectively explore deep time, ecological knowledge, and visual and movement-based practices rooted in stillness and slowness. Across all mediums, and in collaboration with the Galápagos Archipelago, we work with you to attune your body and praxis to more-than-human temporalities.

Each selected artist will have the opportunity to praxis slowness, stillness, and ecological attunement within our collective framework and during eco-methods workshops offered by Sunde and Truax.

Artists will also have time to develop your own work.

With 12 acres to explore, studio visits and mentorship takes place wherever you praxis.
